Charlotte Summers
A bunch of random things about me:
I'm 23, but I'll be 24 next week- April 9th! I live in St. Paul, Minnesota with my boyfriend, Vince, and our cat, Gigi, who we just call "kitten". Although I was born on the north side of Chicago and lived there until I was 8, I consider Indianapolis, Indiana my home. I'm currently a film production student and I bartend on the weekends, but I'm full time during the summer. I'm a sucker for old (1940s) movies. I love Frank Capra and French film. Speaking of old things, I also collect records (yes, vinyl)- everything from Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and other music our grandparents liked to 90s rap.
My s/o and I:
Vince and I met in French class at Augsburg College in September of 2011. I noticed there was a super cute boy on the opposite side of the classroom who looked to be my age. This was a beginning French class so everyone else was very young looking. After a week of catching each other staring, I finally grew a pair and sat next to him. The rest is history.
I didn't know Vince while he was active duty, he was in a Navy reserve unit when I met him. A few weeks into talking he mentioned something about volunteering for a deployment to Romania, but I thought nothing of it. As deployment time got closer so did we. After only three months after dating he went home to Indy with me for Xmas and fit right in with my big family. I have five brothers, who can get a wee bit protective sometime and they all loved him. A month later, he deployed for 7 months and we kept falling more and more in love. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but with a good support system, even an internet one, it's a whole lot easier.

How I became part of Operation: Stand By Your Man: Like most other admins and everyone else on OSBYM, I was going though my first deployment and I had no idea what to expect. My brother is a Green Beret and deployed all the time, but half the time we didn't know he was gone until he was back. I knew though him that there were resources for wives and families on post, but what about me? I was not a wife, Vince was not active duty and we lived no where near a post or base. I have no idea what prompted me to search for Facebook groups, but whatever it was I'm thankful for it. I "liked" OSBYM and fell in love instantly. I was almost overwhelmed by how supportive and kind everyone was. I joined the private pages where I was, and still am, very active and got to know lot of wonderful, strong women, including some of the other admins. I never thought that I'd be the type to have "internet friends," but I do and I love them all. Eventually Steph and Kailene asked me if I wanted to admin, and I enthusiastically typed, "YES!!!" This page as done some much for me, I'd like to pay it forward in any way I can. |
